How to Cancel a Job

In Jobs view or in the Jobs window, you can cancel a job that is running. Some jobs cannot be canceled. These include Add Hosts and system jobs such as Refresh Virtual Machine.

For certain jobs, such as migrating a virtual machine to a different host, canceling the job might take a long time.

The results pane in Jobs view by default displays jobs from the most recent to the oldest, so recently requested jobs are displayed prominently. However, to locate a job that has been running for a long time, you might want to use one of the following methods:

  • Open the Jobs window. By opening the Jobs window, you can view your own current jobs in any view. By default, the Jobs window opens when each wizard closes. To open the window at any time, click My Jobs on the VMM toolbar.
  • Filter Jobs view to display running jobs only. In the navigation pane in Jobs view, click Filters, click Status, and then select the Running check box.
  • Click any column header to sort the jobs by that property. For example, sort by status, command, or start time. Or use the Group by field to group the entries by any column.

Use the following procedure to cancel a job in Jobs view.
