How to Allow Library Access for Self-Service Users

Use the following procedure to grant library access to self-service users when you create or modify a self-service policy. If you allow the user or group to store their virtual machines on a library share, the stored virtual machines do not count against any virtual machine quota that you set in the self-service policy. For more information, see About Virtual Machine Quotas.

The virtual machines are stored on the path that you specify on an existing library share. The self-service users do not know the physical location of their stored virtual machines. For information about adding library servers and shares, see Adding File-Based Resources to the Library.

To enable self-service users to store virtual machines

  1. If you are creating a self-service policy, navigate to the Library Settings page of the Create a New Self-Service Policy wizard.

    -Or-

If you are modifying an existing self-service policy, display the Library Settings tab of the policy.

  2. To grant Store VM permission, select the Allow policyholders to store virtual machines in the library check box.

  3. Specify where to store the virtual machines owned by the user or group:

    1. Under Library Server, select the library server. You can use the Library group field to filter the list to the library servers within a selected library group.
    2. To specify a path for the virtual machines on the selected library server, click Browse by the Library path field, and then navigate to the folder where you want to store the virtual machines.
The Select Destination Folder dialog box shows only folders within designated library shares. For information about adding shares to a library server, see How to Add Library Shares.
