How to Update an Agent on a Host

When you update the version of your Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) server, you also need to update the VMM agents on all hosts to the same version of VMM.In a related update scenario, you might want to transfer one or more managed computers from one VMM server to another. For example, you might want to consolidate the hosts that are being managed by two or more VMM servers onto a single VMM server, or you might want to transfer a managed computer back to the VMM server from which it was transferred.

Managed computers that have been transferred to another VMM server and have not been deleted from the original VMM server will appear in the Managed Computers pane of Administration view for the original VMM server. However, because the agents have been reassociated with a different VMM server, you must reassociate the agents with the original VMM server.

Use the following procedures to determine whether an agent needs to be updated or whether an agent on a managed computer needs to be reassociated.

To determine whether an agent needs to be updated

  1. In Administration view, click Managed Computers.

  2. In the results pane, select a managed computer that has Host in the Role column.

  3. If the agent on the host requires an update, the Update action will be active in the Actions pane.
