Installing the 32-Bit Debugging Tool

The following are system requirements for the Debugging Tools for Windows:

  • The 32-bit version requires Windows 2000, 32-bit version of Windows XP or Windows XP 64-Bit Edition, or Windows NT 4.0.

  • Internet Explorer 5 or later for the help and some of the tools to work correctly.

  • Approximately 21-MB (megabytes) hard disk space.

Step 1: If you are running Windows NT 4.0, you must first update your Windows Installer to version 1.1, then you can go to Step 3. If you are running Windows 2000, then you already have Windows Installer 1.1 and there is no need to reinstall it. Instead, go straight to Step 2.

Download Windows Installer 1.1.

Step 2: If you have installed a Beta version released prior to retail version 1.0.6.0, you must uninstall it before installing Debugging Tools for Windows. An uninstall option is available in the Start menu listed under Programs | Debugging Tools for Windows.

Step 3: The following links install the 32-bit version of Debugging Tools for Windows. The 32-bit version is the best choice unless you are debugging an application on an Itanium-based processor. In this case, you should use the 64-bit package.

Download the 32-bit Debugging Tools package.

Installing the 64-Bit Debugging Tool

The following are system requirements for the Debugging Tools for Windows:

  • The 64-bit version requires Windows XP 64-Bit Edition.

  • Approximately 18-MB hard-disk space.

The following link installs the 64-bit version of Debugging Tools for Windows.

Notice: This package only install on an Itanium-based platform. 64-bit Debugging Tools for Windows is only required when you are debugging an application on an Itanium-based processor. In any other scenario, you should use the 32-bit package previously listed. For example, when doing kernel debugger debugging of an Itanium-based target computer from an x86-based host computer, the 32-bit package should be installed.
