To configure alternate access mapping for SharePoint Services
Some links created by Windows SharePoint Services and SharePoint Portal Server will not be translated correctly by ISA Server link translation. For this reason, you should configure alternate access mapping:
- If you are publishing Windows SharePoint Services, configure alternate access mapping on Windows SharePoint Services.
- If you are publishing SharePoint Portal Server, in SharePoint Portal Server configure Windows SharePoint Services alternate access mapping.
See the following SharePoint documents for detailed instructions on how to configure alternate access mapping:
- Windows SharePoint Services: See the topic "Support for Reverse Proxy, Alternate URL, and SSL Termination" at the Microsoft Office Online Web site (https://www.microsoft.com)
- SharePoint Portal Server: Deploying SharePoint Portal Server 2003 on an Extranet (https://www.microsoft.com)
Important
We recommend that you use the default ISA Server SharePoint publishing rule configuration that enables the forwarding of the original host header to the SharePoint Portal server. This will enable SharePoint to differentiate between external requests, for which it will provide translated links, and internal requests, for which it will provide internal links.
ISA Server supports the publishing of SharePoint Portal Server with Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Windows SharePoint Services with SP2.
Note
For more information about alternate access mapping in SharePoint Portal Server, see the Microsoft Office Online Web site (https://www.microsoft.com).
