How to Recover Data from DPM 2006 Shadow Copies

If you have to recover a file from the shadow copies on the DPM 2006 server for data that is now protected by DPM 2007, you must specify an alternate recovery location. The alternate recovery location can be the original location; however, you must specify it as an alternate location in the DPM 2006 Recovery Wizard because DPM 2006 no longer has a file agent on the original server.

To recover data to an alternate location

  1. On the DPM 2006 server, open DPM Administrator Console, and click Recovery on the navigation bar.

  2. Browse or search for the data you want to recover and then, in the results pane, select the data.

  3. In the Actions pane, select a recovery action: Recover selected version or Show all versions.

  4. On the Data to Recover tab, select an item to recover, and then click Change Destination.

  5. In the Specify Alternate Recovery Destination dialog box, browse to a recovery destination, select it, and then click OK.
