To configure tunneling protocol for a remote site network

  1. In the console tree of ISA Server Management, click Virtual Private Networks (VPN).

  2. In the details pane, click the Remote Sites tab, and then select the applicable remote network.

  3. On the Tasks tab, click Edit Selected Network.

  4. On the Protocol tab, select one of the following:

    • **L2TP/IPsec—**To enable Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) over Internet Protocol security (IPsec) authentication and encryption protocol to pass through the ISA Server computer. If you select this option, you can optionally select Use preshared key IPsec authentication instead of certificate authentication, and then type a preshared key that will be used for secondary authentication. This preshared key must be configured on each client that will connect by using this policy.
    • **PPTP—**To enable Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) to pass through the ISA Server computer. PPTP is a tunneling protocol used to manage tunnels and encapsulate data.

Note

To open ISA Server Management, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft ISA Server, and then click ISA Server Management.
For ISA Server 2006 Enterprise Edition, expand Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, expand Arrays, expand Array_Name, and then click Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
For ISA Server 2006 Standard Edition, expand Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, expand Server_Name, and then click Virtual Private Networks (VPN).

Important

This task can be performed only on PPTP and L2TP networks. To specify IPsec tunnel mode tunneling protocol, you must create a new remote network.
