To configure Web browser settings for Firewall Client

  1. In the console tree of ISA Server Management, click Networks.

  2. In the details pane, click the Networks tab, and then select the applicable network.

  3. On the Tasks tab, click Edit Selected Network.

  4. On the Firewall Client tab, select Enable Firewall client support for this network, if the Web browser on the Firewall client should use configuration information that is contained in the specified automatic configuration script.

  5. Select Automatically detect settings, if the client computer should automatically attempt to find the ISA Server computer.

  6. Select Use automatic configuration script, if the Web browser on the Firewall client computer should use configuration information that is contained in the specified automatic configuration script. If you select this option, specify one of the following:

    • Use default URL. Specifies that the default client configuration script will be used. During setup, ISA Server creates a default URL that points to the location of the automatic configuration script. This default configuration script will automatically be available to the Web browser, so that you can update all client Web browser settings without having to reconfigure each individual Web browser.
    • Use custom URL. Specifies that a custom client configuration script will be used. As an alternative to the default configuration script, you can manually construct your own configuration script. When the Web browser looks for the configuration script, your custom script will be returned to the browser.

Note

To open ISA Server Management, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft ISA Server, and then click ISA Server Management.
For ISA Server 2006 Enterprise Edition, expand Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, expand Arrays, expand Array_Name, expand Configuration, and then click Networks.
For ISA Server 2006 Standard Edition, expand Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, expand Server_Name, expand Configuration, and then click Networks.

Important

Click the Apply button in the details pane to save the changes and update the ISA Server configuration.
The configuration script is created, based on options that you specify on the Web Browser tab. The configuration script is automatically made available to the Web browser on the Firewall client, so that you can update all Web browser settings without having to reconfigure each individual Web browser.
When Automatically detect settings is enabled, you can configure the DNS or DHCP server to include Web Proxy Automatic Discovery (WPAD). The Web Proxy client will use the WPAD feature to automatically discover which ISA Server computer to use for Web requests. This assures that roaming clients will always connect to the appropriate ISA Server computer when logging on to the Internet, reducing time-consuming adjustments. This is relevant only to Internet Explorer 5 and later supporting browsers.
