Manage Packages

"Packages" are used to deploy installations of Forefront Security and templates throughout your enterprise. When you create a package you indicate the location of the installation or template file and various other configuration settings, including the servers that the package will be deployed to. The package is then uploaded so that it is available to the deployment job. (For more information about jobs, see Manage Jobs.)

Creating a Package

There are two types of packages:

  • Installation Packages – for more information about creating an Installation Package, see Installing Forefront Security On Remote Servers in Manage Jobs.
  • Template Packages – for more information about creating a Template Package, see Deploying Forefront Security Templates On Remote Servers in Manage Jobs.

After you have created a package, you can edit, copy, rename, and delete it.

Editing a Package

These are the steps to edit a package.

To edit a package

  1. Click Packages in the Job Management section of the Navigation Area. The Manage Packages work pane appears.

  2. Select a package in the list by using its associated checkbox.

  3. Click Edit and make the changes to the displayed data.

Copying a Package

These are the steps to make a copy of a package.

To copy a package

  1. Click Packages in the Job Management section of the Navigation Area. The Manage Packages work pane appears.

  2. Select a package in the list by using its associated checkbox.

  3. Click Copy. A new package is added to the list with the name Copy of packagename.

  4. Give the copy a new name (see Renaming a Package), and then edit it to make any needed changes (see Editing a Package).

Renaming a Package

These are the steps to rename a package.

To rename a package

  1. Click Packages in the Job Management section of the Navigation Area. The Manage Packages work pane appears.

  2. Select a package in the list by using its associated checkbox.

  3. Click Rename. The Rename Package work pane appears.

  4. Enter the new name for the package, and then click Continue. You are returned to the Manage Packages work pane and the package appears in the list with its new name.

Deleting a Package

These are the steps to delete a package.

To delete a package

  1. Click Packages in the Job Management section of the Navigation Area. The Manage Packages work pane appears.

  2. Select a package in the list by using its associated checkbox.

  3. Click Delete. The Delete Package work pane appears.

  4. Click Confirm. You are returned to the Manage Packages work pane and the package no longer appears in the list.
