Logging

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Working with logs and auditing is one of the important tasks that you will do on a regular basis as an Update Server administrator.

The process of auditing usually involves getting a snapshot of devices, the version of software updates they have installed, the time of the last update, and so on.

Important

Log information is sensitive and should be handled with security in mind. This is because the user information is retained in the logs.

Loading logs

All device logs remain on the device unless they are uploaded to the SharePoint site. However, system logs are uploaded periodically to the Update Server. Watson logs and diagnostic logs are loaded on demand because they are event specific.

Viewing logs

To view logs, you need to be part of the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group.

All logs are stored as documents at the SharePoint Update site. The three basic folders under which all the logs are stored are:

  • The Updates folder, which contains all log files pertaining to the updates uploaded in your organization.

  • The Logs folder, which contains two subfolders:

    • The Client folder contains all logs from clients.

    • The Server folder contains all server logs.
