Unified communications devices such as Microsoft® Communicator Phone Experience and Microsoft RoundTable enable rich communication in an enterprise. Deploying these devices in an enterprise requires regular maintenance by the IT department, which includes providing software updates to these unified communications devices on a regular basis. All unified communication devices rely on an automatic mechanism to obtain software updates on a regular basis.

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Software Update Service is an automated way to update all unified communications devices deployed in an enterprise. These software updates could be the latest enhancements or bug fixes in the current version already deployed on the device.
