Installing the Enterprise Manager instance

Installing the Enterprise Manager instance requires that you install a new one-server or two-server Client Security topology. A one-server Client Security topology installs all the Client Security server components on a single server, and a two-server Client Security topology places the Client Security distribution server on a separate computer.

The Enterprise Manager instance cannot be a pre-existing Client Security deployment with existing data in the collection and reporting databases. Enterprise Manager does not support having clients report to the instance, and existing data in the collection or reporting databases will not be migrated. Any existing data in the Client Security databases will not display in the Enterprise Manager console or on Enterprise Manager reports.

Important

When installing Client Security on the server that will be the Enterprise Manager server, you must follow the following guidelines.

  • The MOM management group name specified in the Client Security setup must be changed from the default offered in the Server Setup wizard. It is highly recommended to use a management group name that signifies that this management group is the Enterprise Manager management group.

  • As data will be collected from multiple down-level Client Security databases and stored first in the collection database on the Enterprise Manager server before it is moved to the reporting database, you must increase the size of the collection database from the default in the Server Setup wizard. The default size set during the setup of Client Security is 15 gigabytes (GB); the maximum size is 30 GB.

  • Once the Server Setup wizard has completed, you must not run the Client Security Configuration wizard. This step must wait until after the installation of the Enterprise Manager component.
