Planning Server has three client software components: Planning Administration Console, Planning Business Modeler, and PerformancePoint Add-in for Excel. The diagram below illustrates these Planning client components.

Planning Administration Console is a thin, Web-based client used to create or manage applications, model sites, users, administrative roles, system settings, and data connections. Planning Administration Console runs on Internet Explorer and uses a Planning Administration Console site.

The Planning Administration Console site uses Internet Information Services (IIS) to provide access to its online administration and configuration features. This allows Planning Administration Console to be secured using both authenticated user and group permissions in IIS.

Planning Administration Console can be used remotely or locally.

Because administrative settings made directly on the server are not validated before processing, and could therefore be incorrect or invalid, we highly recommend that you only make configuration settings using Planning Administration Console.

There is no support for stateless load balancing for multiple Planning Administration Console servers.

See the Planning Administration Console online Help for detailed information about Planning Administration Console features.
