Internal Network Topologies

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

The internal Office Communications Server 2007 Front End Server and Back-End Database, in one of the supported topologies, are required for all users. Additional server roles can be required, depending upon your deployment. The following figure shows the reference topology with all server roles.

The following Office Communications Server 2007 server roles can be deployed only in the internal network:

  • Front End Server

  • Back-End Database

  • Conferencing servers. These server roles are always part of a Standard Edition server. Except as noted, in Enterprise Edition deployments they are not collocated with a Front End Server computer.

    • A/V Conferencing Server

    • Web Conferencing Server

    • Web Components Server

    • IM Conferencing Server

    • Telephony Conferencing Server

  • Address Book service

  • Director

  • Mediation Server

  • Media Gateway

  • Communicator Web Access server

  • Computer Telephony Integration Server (remote call control gateway)

  • Archiving and CDR Server
