Introduction

This guide is intended to be used as a part of Microsoft® Deployment Solution Accelerator. Microsoft Deployment is the next version of Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) 2007. It guides the Image Engineering feature team through the process of using Microsoft Deployment and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 during the imaging process.

Note   Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Operating System Deployment (OSD) Feature Pack does not include the ability to create images, so the Microsoft Deployment Lite Touch Installation (LTI) deployment process is used, instead.

This guide describes how to customize reference images by customizing the task sequence, developing custom scripts, customizing existing scripts, adding applications, and customizing actions.

Note   In this document, Windows applies to the Windows Vista®, Windows® XP Professional, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, Windows Server® 2008, and Windows Server 2003 operating systems unless otherwise noted.

This guidance extends the Microsoft Deployment documents, Image Engineering Feature Team Guide, Workbench Imaging Guide, and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Imaging Guide. Table 1 lists the reference guides that will assist the Image Engineering feature team in finding the correct information to configure and set up Deployment Workbench, Systems Management Server 2003, and System Center Configuration Manager.
