How to delete a replica

Published : April 8, 2005 | Updated : August 17, 2005

You can delete a replica when you no longer need to be able to recover data for the associated protection group member. The method you use to delete the replica depends on whether or not the replica is active. An active replica is one for which the source data is currently being protected.

To delete an active replica

  1. In DPM Administrator Console, click Protection on the navigation bar.

  2. In the Display pane, select the protection group member that you want to delete.

  3. In the Actions pane, click Remove from group.

  4. Under Replica and Shadow Copies Eligible for Deletion, in the Delete column, select each volume for which you want to delete existing replicas and shadow copies.

  5. Click Remove Members at the bottom of the dialog box. After you click this button, you cannot cancel this action.

Note

When you delete an active replica, you are also deleting all shadow copies for the previously protected data and you are removing the associated member from the protection group. For more information, see How to remove members.
