Using DPM to Recover Data

Published : September 27, 2005

You determine that Northwind Traders could increase productivity and significantly reduce administrative costs by enabling end-user recovery for supported client computers. After your request for change is approved and tested, you configure end-user recovery for the client computers running Windows XP in the domain and ensure that the affected users receive training on use of this feature.

Users on those computers can now restore files without administrator or Help Desk assistance. The files are obtained from the shadow copies on the DPM server, although the users are unaware of this.

Other users contact you directly when they need files restored. Recovery is a quick and simple procedure that takes you only a few minutes to perform. Now that you are able to provide immediate recovery without the need to locate and load a tape archive, you notice that the number of successful file recoveries increases and the amount of time required for each recovery decreases.
