Supported Topologies

DPM supports both simple topologies and data center/branch office topologies.

Simple Topology

A simple topology consists of a DPM server that is connected to the file servers it protects over a LAN. The DPM server and the file servers it protects must be members of the same Active Directory domain. Figure 2.1 shows a simple topology for DPM.

Data Center/Branch Office Topology

A data center/branch office topology consists of a DPM server that is connected to the file servers it protects over a WAN. The DPM server must have a persistent virtual private network (VPN) connection to the file servers it protects, and the DPM server and the protected file servers must be members of the same Active Directory domain. Figure 2.2 shows a data center/branch office topology for DPM.
