DPM Management Pack

The Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2006 Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 (MOM) enables an administrator to use a MOM Management Server to centrally monitor data protection, state, health, and performance of multiple Data Protection Manager (DPM) servers and the file servers that they protect.

From the MOM Operator console, the administrator can monitor DPM and network infrastructure simultaneously, analyzing issues with data protection in the context of other factors in system and network performance. From the same console, the administrator can monitor other mission-critical applications, such as Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Server.

From the MOM Management Server, administrators can perform the following monitoring tasks for managed DPM servers and the file servers that they protect:

  • Centrally monitor the health and status of data protection and critical performance indicators of multiple DPM servers and the file servers that they protect.

  • View the state of all roles on DPM servers and protected file servers.

  • Monitor actionable DPM alerts relating to replica creation, synchronization, and shadow copies. The DPM Management Pack filters out alerts that do not require an action, such as a synchronization job in progress.

  • Through MOM alerts, monitor the status of memory, CPU, and disk resources on DPM servers, and be alerted to DPM database failures.

  • Monitor resource usage and performance trends on DPM servers.

  • Diagnose and resolve problems on a remote DPM server.

The DPM Management Pack is not included with the DPM product. It is a free download at the DPM Management Pack download site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=50208).
