How to delete a shadow copy

Published : April 8, 2005 | Updated : August 17, 2005

If the Data Protection Manager (DPM) server has adequate storage space, DPM can store a maximum of 64 shadow copies for each replica in a protection group. When storage area limits are reached, the oldest shadow copy is automatically deleted and cannot be restored. If disk space is limited or the maximum number of shadow copies has already been created, you can still retain your oldest shadow copies by manually deleting some intermediate shadow copies.

To delete a shadow copy

  1. In DPM Administrator Console, click Protection on the navigation bar.

  2. In the Display pane, select the volume or share for which you want to delete a shadow copy.

To review information about shadow copies, including the oldest shadow copy, latest shadow copy, and total shadow copies, refers to the Details pane.

  3. In the Actions pane, click Manage shadow copies.

  4. In the Manage Shadow Copies dialog box, select the shadow copy that you want to delete.

  5. Click Delete to confirm that you want to delete the shadow copy and then click Close.
