SMS 2003 SP2 Updates for the Inventory Tool for Microsoft Updates

SMS 2003 SP2 includes an updated version of the Inventory Tool for Microsoft Updates (ITMU), with hotfixes and updates to the product since its initial release.

The ITMU is not installed automatically. Installation of ITMU is available as a new option for installation from the SMS 2003 SP2 upgrade CD or downloaded service pack files. This option initiates SMSITMU.MSI, which is included in the Scantools folder of the extracted setup files.

An upgrade using Update.exe does not deploy ITMU automatically nor does it leave the extracted files in the temporary folder so that you can manually install ITMU later. You must manually extract the setup files and then either choose the option from the upgrade options by running Autorun.exe or run SMSITMU.MSI directly from the Scantools folder of the extracted files.

The included version of ITMU in SMS 2003 SP2 requires no additional updates to the SMS environment.

Programs created for ITMU scanning and deployment now include 64-bit support.
