The summary page titled "Completing the Systems Management Server Setup Wizard" may show incorrect selection status entries for Asset Intelligence

The name associated with Asset Intelligence selection options may be displayed as ASSETADVISOR. Furthermore, in some cases, the summary information may not indicate your actual settings.

WORKAROUND: If the Asset Intelligence selection status summary appears incorrect, back up to the Asset Intelligence page of the wizard to confirm your selection status. If the information in the summary page does not agree with your confirmed settings, please ignore the summary.

You get this warning when your SQL server is configured as "Allow modifications to be made directly to the system catalogs". This warning can be safely ignored. It does not signify any harmful error.

WORKAROUND:   None.

SMS Setup might quit silently in a virtual server environment when running setup from a network location

Virtual servers can have difficulties installing from a network location.

WORKAROUND:   If you install SMS server in a virtual server image, it is recommended that you copy the SMS setup CD files to the local disk of the virtual server image, and then run setup.exe locally.

Installing the SMS Upgrade web download version directly onto a computer running Windows Vista will result in an error.

Installing the SMS Upgrade web download version directly onto a computer running Windows Vista will result in the error, Not enough storage is available to process the command.

WORKAROUND:   Run the downloaded executable with the /X option to extract the files to a directory, and then navigate to ..\ smssetup\bin\i386 in the extracteddirectory and run the following command:

setup /upgrade /nobackground

This will upgrade the SMS console on Vista.

Unable to reference Asset Intelligence Knowledge Base files on UNC share

During Setup, referencing an Asset Intelligence Knowledge Base file that is on a network share to which the user does not have access can cause the folder selection dialog to fail and return the user to the AI wizard page without warning.

WORKAROUND:   Do one of the following:

  • Make sure that you have permission to access the share where the Knowledge Base file is saved.

  • Copy the Asset Intelligence Knowledge Base file (file name extension .enc) to a local folder and browse to that folder.

SMS 2003 Management Point Installs Hotfixes or Redistributable Components during Installation Process

The management point installs the following components and hotfixes, which are required for successful operation:

  • BITS 1.5 Server (filename: bits_v15_server_setup.exe) is installed on Windows 2000 SP4.

  • WinHTTP (Hotfix: KB814841) is installed on Windows 2000 SP4.

  • MSXML 3.0 (SP4) is installed on Windows 2000 SP4.

WORKAROUND:   None.

Note

If you have changed the system default font in the registry on the computer running an SMS 2003 SP3 Administrator console, SMS uses the font specified to display information. This also applies to remote SMS Administrator consoles.

WORKAROUND:   None.

Installation Wizard navigation buttons work incorrectly

When installing SMS SP3, the Installation Wizard navigation buttons occasionally fail to navigate correctly or may be incorrectly positioned.

WORKAROUND:   If it is necessary to return to a previous screen and the navigation buttons are behaving incorrectly, cancel out of the Installation Wizard and begin again.
