Using MOM with the IIS Lockdown Tool

IIS Lockdown Wizard functions by turning off unnecessary features, thereby reducing attack surface available to attackers. Applying these settings might have some affect on MOM functionality. This section details what affects there might be and what changes you need to make to restore proper functioning after the tool is applied. For more information about the lockdown tool, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=32741.

With the Management Server

You can apply the Internet Information Services (IIS) Lockdown tool to the Management Server without affecting MOM functionality, with one exception: when ASP.NET is disabled by the tool, the MOM 2005 Web console no longer functions. This is because the Web console depends upon ASP.NET for its core functionality. To use the Web console, you must re-enable ASP.Net after running the IIS Lockdown tool. For more information about enabling and configuring ASP.NET, see the Internet Information Services documentation.

With the Reporting Server

You can apply the IIS Lockdown tool to the MOM Reporting Server without affecting MOM functionality. However, you must use the FrontPage Extensions template when you run the tool. You must also re-enable ASP.NET if it is disabled because the Reporting console depends upon ASP.NET for its functionality. For more information about enabling and configuring ASP.NET, see the Internet Information Services documentation.
