Starting Over

  • If you do not want to upgrade your Management Pack from MOM 2000 SP1, you can add new functionality, and delete the previously implemented rules and groups, as part of the upgrade process by using "mark as delete" functionality. The following approach can be used if you want to remove all (or a subset) of your existing rules:

    • Ensure you are using the same GUIDs for:

      • The MOM 2000 SP1 rule group root and the MOM 2005 rule group root.

      • The MOM 2000 SP1 computer attributes and the MOM 2005 computer attributes.

    • Import your MOM 2000 Management Pack into MOM 2005 using the update merge option.

    • Mark for deletion the MOM 2000 SP1 rules and rule groups that you no longer want to preserve.

    • Export the Management Pack.

Public views cannot be marked for deletion, and cannot be removed from a Management Pack that has already been installed. To delete public views, use the same GUID that was used for a previously shipping Management Pack, and then implement a new view with the same GUID.

Note

Using the "mark as delete" functionality will delete all existing rules that you have marked for delete, irrespective of whether the user has made customizations. Also, any new rules that were created in rules groups that were marked as delete will be lost. It is recommended that you document this to inform users that their customizations or changes will be lost on import, and that they should copy rules outside the hierarchy to preserve them.
