Management Pack Leveling and Features

The complexity and sophistication of Management Packs can be classified by the following system of levels that describe the MOM 2005 features utilized by a Management Pack:

Level 1 : Basic Management Pack (Same as a MOM 2000 Management Pack)

  • Event and Performance-based alerts for all major components of the application. All alerting rules must contain Product Knowledge.

  • Basic set of standard views and rich views specific to this Management Pack that contains graphical views of performance data and collections of specific events/alerts for detailed diagnosis.

Level 2: Management Pack using MOM 2005 features

All features in Level 1 plus:

  • State Monitoring View with role specific this Management Pack, including dynamic green/yellow/red state for important aspects of that application.

  • Tasks (command line or script based) and Operator-initiated tasks to diagnose or repair problems.

Level 3: Advanced Management Pack

All feature in Level 2, plus:

  • Reports (SQL Reporting Services) to aid capacity planning, utilization analysis and performance tuning.

  • Active Monitoring / Synthetic Transactions where services are verified by using synthetic transactions and where the Best-Practice configurations can be confirmed for security and performance.
