Interpreting System Status

The SMS status system monitors and reports the overall health of SMS sites and site hierarchies. You use the SMS status system to view a summary of the site system, component, package, and advertisement statuses in your site. You view these summaries at different levels of detail by using status summaries.

Status summarizers produce status summaries from status messages and other data in the site database. Status summaries are not reports because they are not based on scheduled queries to the site database. Instead, they are produced in real time as the summarizers receive status messages from the other SMS components.

SMS includes four status summaries:

  • Component Status

  • Site System Status

  • Package Status

  • Advertisement Status

Each of the summaries is produced by a unique summarizer thread component, except for Package Status, which is produced by Distribution Manager.
