Configuring Monitoring Scenarios in the Windows File Replication Service Management Pack

Table 9 lists any configurable monitoring scenarios and indicates which elements of the monitoring scenario can be modified. The table also indicates whether additional configuration is necessary to use the monitoring scenario.

Additional Configuration Required?

Monitoring FRS replica members

  • Enable agent proxying.

If agent proxying is disabled, MOM assumes that there is an attempt by an agent to appear to be another agent, and the following security alert is generated:

The agent attempted to send data on behalf of another device but was not authorized to do so.

  • Ultrasound rules generate events and alerts on behalf of other computers. For the Ultrasound rules to process data properly, you must enable agent proxying in the MOM Administrator console, on each server running Ultrasound.

Yes

Many of the monitoring scenarios are configured by changing parameters of scripts that are associated with an event rule. If it is necessary to change a script parameter, you must change the script parameter within the event rule rather than making the change directly to the script that is listed under the Scripts node in the MOM Administrator console. Changing a parameter of a script within the Scripts node does not change the value of the parameter for event rules that are associated with the script.

Committing Configuration Changes

After making configuration changes to the FRS Management Pack, you can deploy the changes to managed computers immediately by committing the configuration changes manually. Otherwise, changes are deployed to managed computers after the rule change polling interval (five minutes by default) and the agent configuration interval (one minute by default).

To commit configuration changes

  1. In the MOM Administrator console, navigate to Management Packs.

  2. Right-click Management Packs, and click Commit Configuration Change.

Monitoring FRS Replica Members

By default, the agent proxying MOM security setting is globally set to prevent agents from acting as proxies for other computers. For the Ultrasound rules in the FRS Management Pack to work properly on each computer on which Ultrasound is running, agent proxying must be set to allow proxying for other computers.

If agent proxying is globally set to prevent agents from proxying for other computers, perform the following procedure on each managed computer on which Ultrasound is running:

To enable agent proxying on an individual computer

  1. In the MOM 2005 Administrator console, expand Microsoft Operations Manager, Administration and Computers.

  2. Right-click Agent-managed Computers.

  3. In the details pane, right-click a computer on which Ultrasound is running and then select Properties.

  4. In the < computer name > Properties dialog box, select the Security tab.

  5. Uncheck Use global settings.

  6. Uncheck Prevent agent from proxying for other computers or network devices.
