Working with Collections

Collections serve as targets for SMS operations, primarily software distribution. By using collections, you can perform an SMS operation on every member of the collection at the same time. For example, when you want to distribute software to clients with certain minimum hardware requirements, you can use a collection of clients that meet those hardware requirements. A client must be in a collection before you can perform any SMS operation on that client.

SMS includes many predefined collections that are useful in most SMS sites. You can use these collections as they are, or you can customize them. You also can create your own collections. This section lists some of the ways you use collections as you work with SMS. There are three main topics in this section:

  • Understanding Collections

  • Creating and Managing Collections

  • Managing Resources in Collections
