MOM Deployment Process Overview

The recommended deployment project phases include planning, designing, lab testing, pilot testing, and deploying your MOM solution into production. The phases begin with building your MOM deployment team, and end when you hand off the MOM solution for continued operations. The following flow chart demonstrates the recommended project phases for planning and deploying your MOM solution.

Each phase focuses on a distinct set of goals, objectives, and deliverables. Each phase also emphasizes different roles, responsibilities, and skill sets. Begin each phase by establishing clear goals and objectives for the phase. End each phase by conducting a formal review and signoff.

Deployment Phases

While the phases illustrated in the previous section summarize the project milestone phases, the process for deploying the technology components that comprise your MOM solution, from the test lab to your production environment, span several project phases. The following flow chart summarizes the process of deploying MOM components.

The previous flow chart illustrates the process of deploying MOM, first in an isolated test environment, and then the gradual phasing of the MOM components into your production environment. This phased approach for deploying MOM components is designed to reduce the impact on your network environment, by providing you with opportunities to:

  • Test and optimize MOM server components, including evaluating the performance of hardware.

  • Gauge the volume of data that Management Packs will generate.

  • Test and tune Management Packs.

  • Test various computer monitoring scenarios.

  • Test other configuration changes.
