Release all records from a hold when the investigation, litigation, or audit for the hold is complete and you do not want to suspend the disposition for records on the associated hold. Use this procedure to release multiple records from a hold.

Important

Membership in the Owners group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To release all records from a hold

Use this procedure to release all records from a hold.

Release all records from a hold

  1. On a Records Center site, click Lists in the Quick Launch, and then click Holds to open the Holds list.

  2. In the Holds list, point to the name of the hold from which you want to release all records, click the arrow that appears, and then click View Item.

  3. In the Hold Status section, click Release hold.

  4. On the Release Hold page, type comments that describe why you are releasing the hold, and then click Release Hold.

    Note

    Office SharePoint Server 2007 records these comments in the audit table.
