Web sites based on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 exist in a hierarchy. At the top of the hierarchy is a top-level Web site. Under this top-level site, there can be multiple subsites, and each subsite can contain other subsites. The entire structure of a top-level Web site and all of its subsites is called a site collection.

You can view the site collections in a Web application on the Site collection page in the SharePoint Central Administration Web site. The Site collection page lists the URLs of all available site collections in a Web application. Site collection details appear in the pane on the right side of the page. The following details are displayed:

  • URL

  • Title

  • Description

  • Primary

  • Administrator

  • E-mail address

  • Database name

For information about how to perform this procedure using the Stsadm command-line tool, see Enumsubwebs: Stsadm operation (Office SharePoint Server).

Membership in the Farm Administrators SharePoint group, or equivalent, is the minimum permission level required to complete this procedure. To view one of the sites within the list, you must have permissions to that site.
