Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 provides two methods for restoring a server farm, Web applications, and content databases. Restoring by using the SharePoint Central Administration Web site offers the convenience of working from the user interface, while restoring by using the Stsadm command-line tool offers a wide range of parameters and allows automation of your recovery process.
Before restoring your farm, ensure that the requirements in the following list are met.
To restore your farm by using the SharePoint Central Administration Web site:
You must be a member of the Farm Administrators SharePoint group.
The database server's SQL account, the Timer service account, and the Central Administration pool account must have Read permissions to the backup locations (the Timer service account and the Central Administration pool account are generally the same).
To restore your farm using the Stsadm command-line tool:
You must be a member of the Administrators group on the local server computer.
Your login account must have Read permissions to the backup locations.
Ensure that The Windows SharePoint Services Administration service is started on all farm servers. This service is not started by default on stand-alone installations.
Consider the following before restoring your farm:
Restoring from one version of SharePoint Products and Technologies to a different version is not supported. For information about migrating, see Move and migrate servers and server farms (Office SharePoint Server 2007).
After recovery, search might take up to 15 minutes to be available again and could be longer if search has to re-index all of the content. To avoid having search do a full recrawl, back up and restore the entire SSP node.
You cannot perform more than one recovery from the same backup at the same time. Moreover, you can only perform one recovery or one backup operation at a time.
To restore your farm, you can perform either of the following two procedures:
ConceptsBack up and restore an entire farm (Office SharePoint Server 2007)
Prepare to back up and restore a farm (Office SharePoint Server 2007)
Back up a farm by using built-in tools (Office SharePoint Server 2007)
