Administering personalization permissions

Personalization permissions are administered from the Shared Services Administration Web site for each Shared Services Provider (SSP). Administrators must have the following permissions when working with personalization permissions:
Read permission to the Shared Services Administration site
Permissions to the site are granted by site administrators for the site. During installation, the account used to create the SharePoint Services Administration site is a site administrator who can later grant read permission to other users. Anyone with read permission to the site can manage lists of targeted links, including trusted My Site host location links, published links to Office client applications, and personalization site links.
One or more of the services permissions for personalization services
Services permissions are needed to manage user profiles, My Site settings, audiences, and usage reporting. Services permissions are managed by a permissions manager for personalization services. This administrator must have the Manage Permissions permission enabled.
Services permissions also include permissions for information workers to create personal sites and use personalization features. Users with these permissions are not administrators and do not require read permission to the Shared Services Administration site.
The account used to create the SharePoint Services Administration site is granted all of the services permissions during installation.
Personalization permissions are managed separately for each SSP, based on users imported from directory services. Any change to the organization that affects directory services requires changes to personalization permissions. Common scenarios include reorganizations that require that groups of users move between domains or between SSPs.
