Migrate a site (Windows SharePoint Services)

To migrate a site from one location to another (for example, from http://Fabrikamsites/currentprojects/project1.aspx to http://Fabrikamsites/oldprojects/project1.aspx), you can use the import and export features of the Stsadmin command-line tool. (The Stsadmin command-line tool makes available a subset of the content migration APIs that are available in the Windows Server 2008 Object Model.) When you use the Stsadmin command-line tool to migrate a site, you can migrate both the user and security settings for the site.

You can use the Stsadmin command-line tool to migrate only whole sites; for content that is more granular, such as specific lists, items, users, or template pages, use the Component Object Model.
