Configure the default settings for a server farm

After the initial installation and configuration of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, you can configure several additional settings. The configuration of additional settings is optional, but many key features are not available unless these settings are configured.
Configure the default settings for a server farm
To take full advantage of the administrative features and capabilities of Office SharePoint Server 2007, perform the following optional administrative tasks, which appear in the Administrator Tasks list on the Home page of the SharePoint Central Administration Web site. Configure incoming e-mail settings For information about incoming e-mail considerations, see Plan incoming e-mail (Office SharePoint Server).

Configure outgoing e-mail settings For information about outgoing e-mail considerations, see Plan outgoing e-mail (Office SharePoint Server).

Configure workflow settings For information about workflow considerations, see Plan workflows and Plan workflows for document management.

Configure session throttles for InfoPath Forms Services You can configure InfoPath Forms Services settings to specify the thresholds at which user sessions should be terminated. You can also configure other InfoPath Forms Services settings, such as data connection timeouts, requiring SSL for HTTP authentication to data sources, and specifying form session state. Add or change Excel Services trusted locations You can configure a list of trusted locations for workbooks used by Excel Services. To perform this procedure, see Manage Excel Services trusted file locations.
Configure service level settings for the Shared Services Provider You can configure the default service level settings for the Share Services Provider used by the server farm. To perform this procedure, see Manage SSPs in a farm (Office SharePoint Server).
Specify a unique application pool account for Central Administration If the account that is used by the Central Administration application pool is also used by another Web application, the Administrator Tasks list will include a task to change the Central Administration application pool account so that it uses a unique account. Check services enabled on this farm You can view a list of issues related to services on your farm. The issues list displays information about the affected service, describes any potential impact on the farm, and tells how to start the specified service. Configure diagnostic logging settings You can configure several diagnostic logging settings to help with troubleshooting. These include enabling and configuring trace logs, event messages, user-mode error messages, and Customer Experience Improvement Program events. Enable SSO in the farm You can configure single sign-on settings in the farm. Single sign-on enables you to connect to external data sources by using Excel Calculation Services or the Business Data Catalog. To perform this procedure, see Configure single sign-on (Office SharePoint Server).
Configure antivirus settings You can configure several antivirus settings if you have an antivirus program that is designed for Office SharePoint Server 2007. Antivirus settings allow you to control whether documents are scanned on upload or on download, and whether users can download infected documents. You can also specify how long you want the antivirus program to run before it times out, and you can specify how many execution threads the antivirus program can use on the server.
