Procedure 1: Creating users

Privileges on specific levels of ISA Server Management are defined through administrator roles. You can allow users to be administrators on an enterprise level, while other users will be administrators of specific arrays. Some administrators can make changes to policy, while others can only view the policy or monitor ISA Server. These procedures are oriented toward enterprise and array administrators, but will be useful for all ISA Server enterprise roles.

There are some procedures in the Enterprise Edition walk-through that may typically be performed by an array administrator, rather than an enterprise administrator. Examples include creating an array, adding servers to an array, and configuring array policy, Network Load Balancing (NLB), and Cache Array Routing Protocol (CARP).

To complete the walk-through, you must have three administrative users in Active Directory. In this scenario, the three users are:

  • EnterpriseAdmin. The enterprise administrator.
  • MainArrayAdmin. The administrator for the array in the main office.
  • BranchArrayAdmin. The administrator for the branch array.

Perform this procedure on the domain controller, Main-DC.

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and click Active Directory Users and Computers.

  2. Expand the node for the local domain (Fabrikam).

  3. Right-click Users, point to New, and select User.

  4. Provide the name information needed.

  5. On the next page, provide the password information, and then click Next.

  6. Click Finish.

  7. Repeat this procedure to create other users.

Note

These users must also be local administrators on any computers on which they will install ISA Server components (except for ISA Server Management).
