Updating definitions

To update definitions

  1. In the Forefront TMG Management console tree, click Update Center.

  2. In the details pane, select Intrusion Prevention System.

  3. In the task pane, on the Tasks tab, click Change Update Schedule, and then modify the schedule for obtaining definition updates.

    • If you want Forefront TMG to check for updates to the selected service more than once a day, select Every, and then in the drop-down list, select the time period that Forefront TMG should wait before checking for updates again.

    • If you want Forefront TMG to check for updates to the selected service once every day, select Daily at, and then in the drop-down list, select the time when Forefront TMG should check for updates.

    • If you want Forefront TMG to check for updates to the selected service only on specific days of the week, select On selected days. Select the days of the week on which Forefront TMG should check for updates, and then in the drop-down list, select the time when Forefront TMG should check for updates.

    • If you do not want Forefront TMG to automatically check for updates to the selected service, select Never. Do not automatically check for security updates.

  4. Click OK.

  5. You can repeat steps 3 through 5 for the other services.

  6. In the details pane, click Apply to save and update the configuration, and then click OK.

Notes

  • For more information about the Forefront TMG intrusion prevention system (IPS), see Planning for the Intrusion Protection System.

  • By default, definitions are updated for all the services every 15 minutes. The Getting Started Wizard provides an opportunity to modify the schedules for obtaining updates for the services listed in the Update Center node.

  • Microsoft requires you to have a subscription license to receive updates for the services from Microsoft Update.
