Look for redirected folders in your Group Policy objects

If you already completed the Look for scripts in your Group Policy objects section earlier in this document, first navigate to Group Policy Results.

To navigate to Group Policy Results

  1. Log on to the Windows EBS Management Server as the domain administrator.

  2. To open the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC), click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Group Policy Management.

  3. Click Group Policy Results, and click the result that you previously created.

If you did not perform the steps in the Look for scripts in your Group Policy objects section earlier in this document, complete the steps to create a report of Group Policy settings in that section up to and including step 8 (where you name the report).

Then, follow these steps to examine your GPOs to see if you are using redirected folders.

To see if you are using redirected folders

  1. In the left pane of the Group Policy Management Console, under Group Policy Results, click the result that you previously created (if it is not already selected).

  2. In the right pane, click the Settings tab, expand User Configuration, expand Policies, and then expand Windows Settings.

  3. If you are redirecting folders, expand Folder Redirection, and then click My Documents. (If you are not redirecting folders, the Folder Redirection section is not present.) You will see an entry with the type of redirection listed as Setting and the network target listed as Path.

  4. The Winning GPO is the GPO that you need to modify.

Note

It is assumed that you chose to redirect folders by specifying the Target folder location as Create a folder for each user under the root path (the default) or by using Redirect to the following location. If you chose a different option, you do not need to perform this migration.

If you are not sure which option you used to redirect folders, follow these steps to check the properties of the Winning GPO.

To inspect the properties of your redirected folders

  1. In the left pane of the Group Policy Management Console, expand the forest and domain.

  2. Right-click the Winning GPO that you identified in the previous steps, and then click Edit. The Group Policy Management Editor appears.

  3. In the left pane of the Group Policy Management Editor, expand User Configuration, expand Policies, expand Windows Settings, and then expand Folder Redirection.

  4. For each redirected folder: In the left pane of the Group Policy Management Editor, right-click the folder, and then click Properties.
