Assign a Client Access License

Use the following procedures to assign a client access license (CAL) to a user account or a device.

Note

You must use an account that is in the Domain Admins group to perform this procedure.

To assign a CAL to a user account

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Essential Business Server, and then click Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console.

  2. Click the Licenses tab, and then click User Licenses.

  3. Click the user account that you want to assign a CAL to.

  4. In the tasks pane, click Manage CAL, and then in the Manage CAL dialog box, assign an available CAL.

    Note

    The dialog box shows how many Standard Edition and Premium Edition CALs are available for you to use. You can assign a temporary Standard Edition CAL if all installed CALs are already assigned to user accounts.

  5. Click OK.

To assign a CAL to a device

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Essential Business Server, and then click Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console.

  2. Click the Licenses tab, and then click Device Licenses.

  3. Click the client computer or another device that you want to assign a CAL to.

  4. In the tasks pane, click Manage CAL, and then in the Manage CAL dialog box, assign an available CAL.

    Note

    The dialog box shows how many Standard Edition and Premium Edition CALs are available for you to use. You can assign a temporary Standard Edition CAL if all installed CALs are already assigned to devices.

  5. Click OK.
