Importing items into a filter list

Data for filter lists may be created offline in Notepad or a similar text editor and then imported into a filter list in the Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server Administrator Console. A list created on one FPE server may be exported to a local file and then imported for use on another FPE server.

To import items into a filter list

1. In Notepad or a similar text editor, create the data to be imported and save it as a text (.txt) file. Be sure to place each filter item on its own line in the file.

2. In the Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server Administrator Console, select an existing filter list into which you are importing data. Data may also be imported at the time you create a filter list. In that case, skip the next step.

3. Edit the filter list by clicking the Edit button.

4. In the dialog box where you specify filter details, click Import.

   Tip

   You can find the Import button in the Filter Details dialog box of the Filter Wizard. To do this, choose Policy Management in the Administrator Console, and then under the Filters section, click Filter Lists. In the Filters – Filter Lists pane, click the Create button. The Filter Wizard appears. Once you select your filter type and click next, you will come to the Filter Details page of the wizard. In the Filter Details dialog box, the Import button appears, which allows you to import items into your list.

5. In the file Explorer window, navigate to the text file you created, select the file, and then click Open.

   The items in the file are imported into the filter list. You can edit or delete any of the items in the list.

6. Finish navigating through the dialog boxes, and then click Save.
