Location of Operations Manager Model Files

By default, the Operations Manager model files used by Capacity Planner are installed to the following folders:

  • For 32-bit Windows Vista: <InstallationDrive>:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Capacity Planner\ModelLibrary v1.0\Imported Models
  • For 64-bit Windows Vista: <InstallationDrive>:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Microsoft Capacity Planner\ModelLibrary v1.0\Imported Models
  • For 32-bit Windows XP: <InstallationDrive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Capacity Planner\ModelLibrary v1.0\Imported Models

If you want to remove an imported model, you can manually delete files in the folder.

WORKAROUND:    None.

Consolidation of the ACS Collector and the Gateway Server is Not Supported by Capacity Planner

Although Operations Manager 2007 supports agents reporting to an ACS collector co-located on a Gateway server, Capacity Planner does not model this scenario. However, Capacity Planner does support the simulation of agents in remote sites reporting to an ACS collector in a central site.

WORKAROUND:    None.

Warning When Consolidating the Reporting Server and Management Server Roles on the Same Server

When you deploy the reporting server and management server roles on the same server, Capacity Planner generates a warning during simulation, which states that collocating the roles is not a best practice. Collocating the roles on a single server is a valid configuration when there are 500 or fewer agents.

WORKAROUND:    None.

Maximum Number of Agents per Gateway

Capacity Planner limits 800 agents per gateway, which is valid when you use Capacity Planner to plan deployments of Operations Manager 2007 SP1.  However, when using Capacity Planner to plan deployments of Operations Manager 2007 without Service Pack 1, you should not deploy more than 400 agents per gateway.

WORKAROUND:    None.

Running a Simulation from the Model Summary Page Does Not Show Errors

When you click Run Simulation from the Model Editor Summary page, any errors that occur during simulation are not shown until you switch to the Global Topology or Site Topology view.

WORKAROUND:   If this problem affects you, click Run simulation from the Global Topology page or Site Topology page in the Model Editor.

Installation Error Might Occur When Installing on Windows Vista

The following error might appear when you install Capacity Planner on a computer running Windows Vista:

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with the package. The error code is 2738.

WORKAROUND:   If you experience this problem, perform the following procedure.

To register Vbscript.dll

  1. Open a Command Prompt window with administrative privileges.

  2. Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll

  3. Close the Command Prompt window.

  4. Run Setup again.

Used Storage Space and Disk Size: Definitions of Gigabyte

In simulation results pages, Used (GB) shows the amount of used storage space in gigabytes where 1 GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes, which is the standard used by Windows operating systems. However, % Used shows the percentage of disk space used where 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes, which is the standard used by disk vendors for describing the capacity of the hardware. The difference between Used (GB) and & Used is 7.3 percent.

Because of this difference in GB definition, it is possible for values under % Used to show 100 percent usage, but Used (GB) might not correspond to the full size of the storage device. In the Hardware Editor, all storage device capacities are shown where 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes.
