This topic, which includes video, shows you how to set up connected accounts. You can keep track of e-mail from other accounts by connecting to them from your Outlook Web App account. You can connect up to five other accounts, such as Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo! Mail accounts. This lets you send, receive, and read mail from all the accounts in one place.

Note

This feature may not be available for your account.

How do I connect to download e-mail from another account?

Setting Description

Connected Accounts

Use Connected Accounts to create a new account connection or to modify an existing account connection. For more information, see New Account Connection.

Default Reply Address

After you set up a connected account, Default reply address will appear. Use this setting to choose the default reply address you want to use for messages that you send from Outlook Web App. You can also choose the reply address to use for individual messages. For more information, see Default Reply Address.

Forwarding

Use forwarding to automatically forward all e-mail sent to your Outlook Web App account to another account. Select the Keep a copy of forwarded messages in Outlook Web App check box if you expect to open and clear out your Outlook Web App mailbox regularly. If you select this check box and don't open your mailbox regularly, your mailbox may become full, which could prevent you from receiving new messages. For more information, see Forwarding.

What else do I need to know?

  • In most cases, you must be signed up for the Yahoo! Mail Plus service to download e-mail from a Yahoo! account.
  • You can only add a Hotmail, IMAP-enabled, or a POP-enabled e-mail account. To receive mail from an account other than these types of accounts, set up e-mail forwarding from that account.
  • When you first add a connected account, e-mail is downloaded immediately. After the initial download, e-mail is downloaded from your connected accounts every hour when you’re not signed in to Outlook Web App. When you are signed in to Outlook Web App, e-mail is downloaded more frequently. To download e-mail from your connected accounts at any time, click the Check Messages button at the top of the message list view.
  • If you don't see the content you expect from a connected account, you may have set up two accounts using the same user name and password. See "I set up a connection for a non-Hotmail account, but Outlook Web App connected to a Hotmail account instead" in FAQs: Downloading E-Mail from Connected Accounts.
