SYSVOL and NETLOGON Shared Folders on Domain Controllers

To install Windows EBS by joining to an existing Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) forest, the SYSVOL and NETLOGON shared folders on all of your existing domain controllers must be intact and correctly configured. These shared resources are required to replicate AD DS data and to apply Group Policy settings in your domain.

During installation, the Windows EBS Installation Wizard tests the health of the SYSVOL and NETLOGON shared folders on each of your existing domain controllers. The wizard tries to locate Group Policy template files that are required for the domain controller to function properly. If a problem is detected, you must correct it to complete the installation of Windows EBS. If one of these shared folders is missing, you should troubleshoot the cause of the problem and rebuild the folder.
