Network Essentials Summary

The Network Essentials Summary section of the Home page provides an overview of the status of your network. By viewing the status of these components, you can quickly ascertain which components on the server or which computers in the network are reporting critical conditions.

The following table lists the four network essential components and their descriptions.

Network Essential Component Name Description

Security

Displays the status of the security components: antispam, antispyware, e-mail antivirus, and file system antivirus.

The following Security summary status can be displayed:

   OK   Security services are running as expected.

   Warning   One or more of the following warning conditions was met:

  • One or more security components has returned a warning condition.

  • One or more computers do not have file-system antivirus enabled or do not have the latest signature files.

   Critical   One or more server security components are not running as expected.

Updates

Displays the status of software updates for the computers on your network.

The following status reports can be displayed:

   OK   Software updates management services are running as expected.

   Warning   One or more of the following warning conditions was met:

  • One or more computers have not installed an approved update that was released in the last 14 days. Check whether these computers are online.

  • The Software Update configuration has been changed and no longer meets the recommended settings. Consider restoring the software update settings to its default value.

  • One or more important updates require approval. Consider installing updates as soon as possible.

  • One or more updates are available for installation on the server. Consider installing updates as soon as possible.

    Critical   One or more of the following critical alert conditions was encountered:

  • Synchronization with Microsoft Update failed. You must run the synchronization manually.

  • Windows Server Updates Services Server health assessment has identified an issue. Please contact your support specialist for assistance.

  • Required updates could not be recovered from Microsoft Update.

  • One or more clients returned an installation error. Identify which clients have been affected and contact your IT support specialist for assistance.

Backup

Displays the status of Backup.

The following Backup status can be displayed:

   OK   Backup services are running as expected.

   Warning   You have not configured Backup for one or more servers on the network.

   Critical   The last backup attempt was unsuccessful for one or more servers on your network.

Other Alerts

Displays remaining server and computer alerts. The following Alerts status can be displayed:

   OK   No critical alerts were reported.

   Warning   One or more network computers have generated a critical alert.

    Critical   One or more network servers have generated a critical alert.
