Install MOM 2005 Reporting

In this topic you install Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) reporting, which integrates with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services.

Tasks

  1. Grant Write Access for Network Service to the Temporary ASP.NET Files Folder
  2. Open Internet Explorer and Connect to https://MOMSQL01/ReportServer
  3. Install MOM 2005 Reporting
  4. Install Hotfix 915785 for SQL Server Reporting Services

Prerequisites

  • KB 915785 to resolve the "Errors can occur when data collected by MOM 2005 SP1 is queried with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services". Download: KB915785 hotfix

Grant Write Access for Network Service to the Temporary ASP.NET Files Folder

Grant write access for the Network Service security principle to the %WinDir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files folder.

Procedure DWR.7: To grant write access for Network Service to the Temporary ASP.NET Files folder on MOMSQL01

  1. On MOMSQL01, and then, in Windows Explorer, open %WinDir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files.
  2. Right-click the Temporary ASP.NET Files folder, select Sharing and Security, select the Security tab, and then click Add.
  3. Enter Network Service, and then click OK.
  4. Click OK to clear the warning prompt.
  5. Select the Modify check box to allow Modify permissions for Network Services.
  6. Click OK to close the Temporary ASP.NET Files Properties dialog box.

Open Internet Explorer and Connect to https://MOMSQL01/ReportServer

Open Internet Explorer and connect to https://MOMSQL01/ReportServer. Authenticate as administrator@fabrikam.com.

Procedure DWR.8: To open Internet Explorer and connect to https://MOMSQL01/ReportServer

  1. On MOMSQL01, open Internet Explorer.
  2. Browse to https://MOMSQL01/ReportServer
  3. When prompted for credentials, authenticate as administrator@fabrikam.com.

Install MOM 2005 Reporting

Install MOM 2005 Reporting on MOMSQL01. Do a default install, but manually specify the ReportServer and Reporting virtual directories.

Procedure DWR.9: To install MOM 2005 Reporting on MOMSQL01

  1. On MOMSQL01, insert the Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 with SP1 integrated installation media and run Setup.exe.

  2. In the Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Setup Resources dialog box, on the Setup Tasks tab, click Install Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Reporting to start the MOM 2005 Setup Wizard.

  3. On the Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Reporting Setup- Welcome page, click Next.

  4. Read and accept the End-User License Agreement, and then click Next.

  5. On the Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Reporting Setup - Registration Information page, enter your User Name and Organization. Click Next.

  6. On the Destination Folder page, accept the default installation path, and then click Next.

  7. On the SQL Server Reporting Services Server page, ensure that MOMSQL01 is listed as the SQL Server Reporting Services Server Name. Clear the Automatically detect virtual directories check box. Enter the following:

    • In the Report Server Virtual Directory text box, type ReportServer.
    • In the Report Manager Virtual Directory text box, type Reports.

    Click Next.

  8. On the Prerequisite Check page, make sure that the prerequisite check has passed. If it has failed, click the View Log button to see why, and then rectify the problem. After you pass the prerequisite check, click Next.

  9. On the MOM Database Server Instance page, enter MOMSQL01 as the MOM Database Server. Click Next.

  10. On the SQL Server Database Instance page, verify that the SQL Server Instance is set to MOMSQL01. Click Next.

  11. On the Database and Log File Information page, set the Database size to 5000 MB.

  12. Click the Advanced button. On the Database Files Location page, set the destination directory where the database and log files will be installed.

    Note

    For optimal performance, install database files and log files on different disks.

  13. Click OK, and then click Next.

  14. On the Data Transfer Task Account page, for User Name enter MOMService. Enter the correct password, and then set the domain to fabrikam. Click Next.

  15. On the Reporting User Account page, for User Name enter MOMService. Enter the correct password, and then set the domain to fabrikam. Click Next.

  16. On the Operational Data Reports Settings page, select whether you want MOM Reporting to automatically send operation data reports to Microsoft. Click Next.

  17. On the Ready to Install page, click Install.

  18. When the installation completes, click Finish.

Install Hotfix 915785 for SQL Server Reporting Services

There is one more hotfix to install for SQL Server Reporting Services.

Procedure DWR.10: To install Hotfix 915785 for SQL Server Reporting Services on MOMSQL01

  • On MOMSQL01, install the following hotfix using defaults:
    • KB 915785 to resolve the "Errors can occur when data collected by MOM 2005 SP1 is queried with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services". Download: KB915785 hotfix.
