Use the MPS Deployment Tool

The MPS Deployment Tool provides the following details tabs and other user interface elements to facilitate the configuration and deployment of Microsoft Provisioning System (MPS) components:

  • Getting Started tab -Provides initial tool guidance by summarizing the basic tasks you can perform with the tool.

  • Install Details tab - Provides information about tool processes.

  • Servers tab - Contains controls for configuring which servers you assign as location sites for MPS component installations.

  • Session History tab - Provides an interface for monitoring the activities of tool sessions.

  • Action History tab - Aggregates a session-to-session log of actions completed by the tool for the lifetime of the deployment.

  • File menu - Contains the following commands:

    • Location - Enables you to specify the location of your configuration files, log files, Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) applications, and MPS component source files.

    • Export Configuration - Enables you to export the MpsConfig.xml file to an alternate location.

    • Save Installed Configuration - Captures the configuration settings for all components that are currently installed and overwrites any previously saved configuration.

    • Restore Installed Configuration - Uses the saved configuration to schedule installations for all previously installed components that are not currently installed.

    • Deployment Files Status - Provides status information for deployment related files. For example, ItemID:MPFClient Deployment File:MPF.msi file exists:Yes.

    • Pending Actions - Displays an Action dialog that lists pending actions such as Install, Upgrade, Repair, Verify, or Configure, for deployment components.

    • Preferences - Displays the MSI Logging dialog to allow selection of one or more of the following logging options:

      • Status messages

      • Nonfatal warnings

      • All error messages

      • Start up of actions

      • Action specific records

      • User requests

      • Initial UI parameters

      • Fatal exit information

      • Out-of-disk space messages

      • Terminal properties

      • Verbose output

  • Help menu - Contains the following commands:

    • Help - To be provided in a future release of the MPS Deployment Tool.

    • Tree Icon Help - Provides definitions of the icons used in the Requirements Status tree.

  • Requirements Status pane - Provides a tree-style view of MPS components that you can configure and deploy in your hosting environment.

  • Start Deployment button - Launches the deployment process.
