The Outlook Profile file (*.prf) cannot be configured

Problem   The Outlook Profile file (.prf) cannot be configured.

Features affected   The Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 .prf aids in the configuration of Outlook 2003 profiles. The Outlook 2003 .prf is configured at the end of the Windows SBS 2008 installation and is automatically pushed to the client computers that have Outlook 2003 installed and in use. The next time the user starts Outlook 2003, a new profile is configured to point to the server that is running Windows SBS 2008.

Solution   Resolving this issue is optional. In addition, if the client computer is running Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, then it does not need the .prf to configure the profile, because of the new Autodiscover functionality. To resolve this issue, do the following:

To configure the Outlook Profile file (.prf)

1. Click Start, in the Search box type cmd, in the quick launch pane right-click Cmd, and then click Run as administrator.

2. In the Command window, type notepad “%programfiles%\Windows Small Business Server\Data\SBSDefault.prf”.

3. In the ServiceEGS section, in the HomeServer field, type the name of the server running Windows SBS 2008.

   Note

   To determine the name of your server, click Start, right-click Computers, and then click Properties. Use the name that is listed as the Full computer name (for example, contososerver.contoso.local).

4. In the Service1 section, in the HomeServer field, type the name of the server running Windows SBS 2008.

5. Save the file.
