Manually redirect a domain to Office Live Small Business Web site

Updated: August 21, 2008

Applies To: Windows SBS 2008

Complete this procedure if you selected the Do not direct Web site traffic for <DomainName> to my Office Live Small Business Web site option while running the Set Up Your Office Live Small Business Web Sites Wizard, and now you want to redirect your domain name to the Business Web site that is hosted by Office Live. You can also run this procedure if your domain is not managed by a participating domain provider, and you want to redirect that domain name to your Office Live Small Business Web site.

You must finish the Set Up Your Office Live Small Business Web Sites Wizard before you redirect your domain name to the Business Web site that is hosted by Office Live.

To partially redirect your domain name to the Business Web site that is hosted by Office Live

  1. Configure the Office Live Small Business public Web site for partial domain redelegation or Web site only redirection. Follow the step-by-step instructions for partially redirecting your domain name to the Office Live Small Business Web site in “Redirect your domain name to Microsoft Office Live Small Business” at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=117766).

  2. Update or create the host (A) resource records for www and the root domain at your domain name provider to point to the IP addresses of the Business Web site and the Business Applications Web site. Follow the instructions in “Setting Up and Configuring Office Live Small Business Web Sites in Windows Small Business Server 2008” at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=116317).

Allow 24 to 72 hours to complete the process. Your domain name registration will remain with your domain name provider, and you will continue to be responsible for domain name fees and renewal with your domain name provider.

  1. Update the Web site links of your Office Live Small Business Web sites on the server 24 to 48 hours after you update the DNS settings with your domain name provider. For step-by-step instructions, see Update Office Live Small Business Web site links on the server.
