Local Network Adapter Configuration (DHCP)

You selected to use a network adapter that was assigned an IP address by an existing DHCP server on the network. Setup used the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway that were assigned to the network adapter by the existing DHCP server to default the values for assigning a static IP address to your local network adapter. It is recommended that you accept these default values.

Important

  • You must exclude the IP address used by the local network adapter from the DHCP scope of the existing DHCP server. If the existing DHCP server assigns the IP address to another client computer or device on the network, it may cause issues with network services for your client computers.

If the existing DHCP server supports the UPnP architecture, Setup will automatically configure the necessary settings for your local network. If Setup is not able to configure the necessary settings, you will be prompted to manually configure the necessary settings on the existing DHCP server.

Notes

  • Since you selected to use an existing DHCP server for your local network, the DHCP Server service will not be installed on the computer running Windows Small Business Server 2003. If you prefer to have Setup install and configure the DHCP Server service on the computer running Windows Small Business Server, click Back to return to the previous page, and then click Next. You will then be prompted with the same messages. Click Yes, and then continue Setup.
  • You must use a static IP address for the network adapter that will access your local network.
    Setup disables all network adapters on the server except the one used to access your local network. Your settings on the disabled adapters are preserved. At the end of Setup, complete the Connect to Internet task to configure your Internet connection and enable your external network adapter.
