Assign User Permissions

Complete this task to update Windows user accounts so that users have access to resources and new features in Windows Small Business Server 2003, such as:

  • Remote Web Workplace.
  • The company's internal Web site, based on Windows SharePoint Services.
  • E-mail.

When you click Start for this task, the Change User Permissions Wizard appears. This wizard enables you to change group memberships and Windows SharePoint Services site group memberships by applying a user template. All previous group memberships, Windows SharePoint Services site group memberships, and the permissions defined by these memberships are removed and replaced by those defined in the template you specify. Users are assigned a home folder and an Exchange mailbox, if they do not have them already.

Important

  • If users currently have permission to access the network remotely, you must apply the Mobile Users template for them to continue to have remote access permissions.
  • If specific permissions were previously applied directly to the user account, those permissions are not changed.
